Breast Care Nurse
I qualified in 1994, Halifax West Yorkshire. I spent my first 6 months working in Intensive care, theatres & female surgery. I then moved to Nottingham to specialise in Breast Care, spending 6 years working on ‘the breast surgery ward’, I attained the position of junior sister. During this time I undertook a number of postgraduate education courses, which included teaching, Breast care nursing & counselling in caring relationships to name but a few. I was activity involved in teaching student nurses & qualified nurses returning to practice.
In 2000 I began working as a primary breast care nurse and continued this for 7years before changing to work with patients with advanced disease, those with large tumours, the over 70 yrs olds & male patients. I have continued to develop professional during this time and have an active role teaching student nurses & medical staff both within & outside the Nottingham Breast Institute. I’m also involved in research & audit.
Whilst working with patients with primary disease I developed & ran an educational and support programme for those who had completed adjuvant treatments.
As a team we train, support & manage our local volunteer support group.
I am a member of the Royal College of Nursing & the Breast Care Nursing Society.
